Lillian Bassman in Popular Photography in 1951
I was reading Popular Photography last night, the April 1951 issue. OK, so I’m a little behind. No, actually I’ve been buying old issues on eBay, and this was the first of a lot of 9 from 1951 that had just arrived. (I reproduced Nikon ads from the 1959 issues a couple of weeks ago.)
Anyway, reading a feature about photographer Lillian Bassman, it seemed to me that her name was somehow familiar. Indeed, just that morning I had read about her at age 92 at The Online Photographer, which in turn referenced a profile of her in The New York Times.
Here’s the 7+ page story from 1951.
