Viewing Your SmugMug Photos with WidePhotoViewer

It's easy to view your own SmugMug-hosted photos with WidePhotoViewer: Just login to SmugMug and there they are. But WidePhotoViewer also contains some automation that assists in making it easy for others to view your photos.

Accessing Public Galleries By SmugMug Nickname

Any WidePhotoViewer user can access your public galleries by searching for your SmugMug nickname by tapping Edit and then the plus sign that appears on the home screen. Then the nickname is typed into the edit field and the Search SmugMug button is tapped. This will add an entry to the QuickList, from which your listed galleries can be accessed. If a gallery is password-protected, WidePhotoViewer will prompt for the password.

Accessing Sharegroups

SmugMug sharegroups have a key that's long and difficult to type, so instead WidePhotoViewer can provide a URL that causes the sharegroup to be automatically added to the QuickList. This URL must be accessed on the iPhone/iPod/iPad, as it links directly to WidePhotoViewer, which must be already installed. The URL has this form:

widephotoviewer://wpvaction/http://[nickname].smugmug.com/share/[sharegoup key]/[gallery name]

Even this is tricky to get right, so to make it easy just go to the sharegroup on the WidePhotoViewer home screen and choose "Email Sharegroup URL" from the action menu. (This menu item is on the home screen, not in the grid view or the other views.) Then send that email to yourself and you'll have the URLs you need.

A sharegroup accessed this way can also have a password; if it does, WidePhotoViewer will prompt for it.
