George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were last seen on June 8, 1924, within reach of the summit of Mt. Everest,
but they were not seen alive again.
Mallory's body was discovered on May 2, 1999,
but neither of the two Kodak Vest Pocket Model B cameras they were carrying have been found.
If they ever are, the pictures might tell whether they died before or after summiting.
Irvine (left) and Mallory. Mallory's famous answer when asked
why he wanted to climb Everest:
"Because it's there."
Two web pages with more about Mallory and Irvine and their cameras are:

A True Mystery In Ice.
One of my daughters bought this Vest Pocket Model B for $10 at a local camera Swap Meet.
Of course, neither she nor I were aware of its historical significance at the time.
The camera takes 127 film which is still available,
so we might shoot a roll someday if the camera works.
